The Best for Last

Here's a few panoramic photos I attempted to take. Panoramic is 3 photos brought together for one long panoramic view. One of Bar Harbor is on this blog header. Above is from the top of Gorham Mountain, Friday, July 9th.

The next two are from the top of Cadillac Mountain, Tuesday, July 6th.

Last Lobster Dinner @ Poor Boys Gourmet Restaurant

For dinner tonight we returned to Poor Boys Gourmet Restaurant and it was again excellent. I had lobster bisque and lobster scampi salad and Jeff had lazy man's lobster followed by the best blueberry pie.

Bubble Rock from Below

It's a little scary to see how high we were when we hiked up to the top of Bubble Rock the other day. Here's the view from the ground below. It certainly was alot less effort to get the pics from this angle .. just hopped out of the car and zoomed my camera lens between the trees. : )

North East Harbor & Somes Sound

We drove to North East Harbor and along Somes Sound. Very nice area with large expansive estates. Ironically among these million dollar estates we found the lobster for sale sign above -- which is common everywhere in Bar Harbor .. but interesting in NE Harbor.

More pics of NE Harbor and Somes Sound at slide show below:

Lunch Break back in Bar Harbor

We enjoyed a nice lunch at Portside. Jeff had Halibut sandwiche and I had clam chowder and lobster roll. Afterwards we went to the dock where Jeff has found the best price on coffee and blueberry pie. I took pics of a group heading out on kayaks. It was supposed to rain today .. but as you can tell the weather was beautiful again.

Last Day @ Bar Harbor, Maine

On our last day we started off with 2 hikes in Acadia Park with trail recommendations from our friendly Park Ranger. He kept us away from the trails that have ladders that you climb up the mountain .. although Jeff insisted he wanted to do those trails. Enjoy pics of our last 2 hikes in Acadia National Park. Compared to the others -- these were an easy 3 miles. Interesting plank walk over a swamp area -- I was definitely on snake alert.

Friday night in Bar Harbor

Well it's Friday night in Bar Harbor, our vacation is coming to a close and we are exhausted. We had an excellent (perhaps the best yet) dinner at Poor Boys Gourmet Restaurant.. and Jeff had blueberry pie ... it was excellent. It had a cookie crust and walnut crumb topping. While we were waiting for our table the owner told us that Susan Sarandon and Martha Stewart have vacation homes at Bay Harbor. Jeff had stuffed lobster and I had sauteed lobster (or also known as lazy mans lobster). As always I can't pass up taking pics of flowers above are a few from the flower garden our table overlooked.

Horse Drawn Carriage Ride Bridge Tour

After hiking the last two days Jeff and I were looking forward to a leisurely horse drawn carriage ride. The ride was interrupted when our horses got spooked and backed the carriage into one of the bridges and broke the yolk that connects to the carriage. Fortunately passengers had gotten off at the bridge to take photos and Jeff relunctant to leave his seat had to get off to let me off so I could of course take pictures.... fortunately he did get off and wasn't on the carriage at the time. Another carriage came by and Jeff and I volunteered to go back on another carriages (especially since we were seated in the last row). The rest of the bridge tour and carriage ride was uneventful. The driver reminded me a little of my dad and when he used to drive horse teams and wagons at the fair and horse shows. Check out more pics at the slide show below -- click on the arrow.

Views from Gorham Mountain Climb 525'

This was a moderate hike up .9 miles up the mountain via bolders as stepping stones. We thought the hike to the Bubble Rock yesterday was difficult -- it was easy compared to this little mountain climb. Jeff did enjoy picking wild blueberries along the trail. The view was worth it and was breathtaking every direction you looked. (click on the slide show below for more pics)

Dessert Beach

After breakfast we started Friday off at Dessert Beach .. the water was ice cold, but it didn't stop a few brave soles from going in. The view was perfect. BTW the last 3 photos in slide show are of hikers climbing the mountain without ropes/harnesses. This mountain overlooked Dessert Beach. (click on the slide show arrow below for more pics)

More of Bar Harbor

Our Journey to Bubble Rock

After lunch at Jordan's Pond we took a .5 mile hike up South Bubble Summit to see the Bubble Rock leaning off the cliff. It was quite a walk straight up -- many places using granite bolders as stepping stones.

Jordan Pond in Acadia Park

Come along and enjoy a walk around Jordan Pond with us. This 3 mile walk was full of beautiful scenery. You will notice that the walk way was huge granite rock and planks in sections. Afterwards we had a great lunch at the restaurant.. where we tried popovers with strawberry jam.

D & J Good times in Bar Harbor, Maine

Whale Watch

Jeff and I got up at 5:00 am to go out on the Puffin and Whale watch this morning. Having been warmed to wear a heavy coat, Jeff bought a sweatshirt and I layered 5 long sleeve tops on for our excursion ... they were not kidding it was really cold. But it was worth the trip to see the whales this morning (and Puffins too). You can even adopt a whale.

Thunder Hole, Acadia Park

Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park July 6th

Feeling like we are on Top of the world at Cadillac Mountain .. 1530 feet high. Strongly thinking about getting up an hour before sunrise to see it from Cadillac Mountain top. From October 7 through March 6 of each year, it is the first place to view a sunrise in the United States. Check out the link below for more info.

D & J Lobsterfest in Maine is on ...

After spending the day at Arcadia National Park, visiting Cadillac Mt. and the Thunder Hole .. we had a late lunch. Jeff tried the lobster roll and I had an excellent lobster cobb salad.

Arcadia National Park - July 6th

We spent almost all day in Arcadia Park on Tuesday and will go back on Thursday. It is beautiful. Enjoy

Flowers and Interesting Things

Some of my favorite pics of flowers and things of interest.

Bar Harbor, ME

Beautiful community on the east coast. So much to see and so little time. Can't believe we didn't take this vacation sooner. Will definitely have to return some day.
